A body that matches the description of missing University of Nevada, Reno professor Judy Calder was found about 40 miles north of Wells, Nev., police said Wednesday.
The body, which was found about 1,500 feet away from U.S. Highway 93, will remain unidentified for at least another week until officials can determine who it is, said Elko County Undersheriff Rocky Gonzalez.
“We have to identify this person first before we can go any further,” Gonzalez said.
Suspicious circumstances still shroud the disappearance of Calder who has been missing since Aug. 18, according to Reno and Sparks officials.
Police found Calder’s abandoned 2000 Lexus L300 sport utility vehicle Aug. 19.
The last contact with Calder, a 64-year-old human development and family studies professor, was in an Aug. 18 phone call with her husband, according to police reports.
“This is a difficult time for Judy’s family and friends,” said UNR President Milton Glick in a statement. “I know you join me in sending thoughts and prayers to her family, as well as to her many friends and colleagues across campus.”
Calder is 5 feet 5 inches tall and 145 pounds with brown eyes and red hair. Police ask anyone who has any information about the case to call university police at 775-784-4033, Sparks police detective at 775-353-2225, Sparks police dispatch at 775-353-2231 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
