A comedian ran around a stage pretending his microphone stand was a crack head while another joker said he was amazed by the arrogance of Reno’s homeless people as students laughed during a Tuesday night performance put on by Flipside Programming.
Comedians D Tyler, Mike Winfield and Patrick J perform at the Jot Travis Student Union Pine Lounge as a part of Welcome Week where about 150 students attended, said Erica Tabano, a Flipside programmer.
She said she thought students enjoyed the entertainment because not much usually happens on a weeknight.
Winfield took the stage with his green beret, blue polo, purple shoes and armed with jokes. His performance received five rounds of applause throughout the night.
One of Winfield’s jokes was how happy he constantly looks because of the size of his teeth.
“People were always telling me what a good attitude I had,” Winfield said. “I mean, I knew it was good but I didn’t think it was that good, so I decided it must be how I look.”
He said he received the trait from his dad who also has “big-ass teeth.”
Patrick J cut in and said, “ I guess French kissing didn’t go down in your family.”
Winfield said there is a future in the comedy business for everyone. He encourages students on campus to “find a mic, a stage, an audience and have fun.”
D Tyler said that UNR is “a cooler college,” and Winfield said he loved the audience. Patrick J said it was cool that anyone would watch him be weird on stage for just five minutes.
Tabano said she wants to feature another comedy show soon, but said next time she would hold it in a bigger place so more students could attend.
In the spring, she intends to have a comedy series hosting one comedian per week.
