A few hundred people came to a candlelight vigil Sunday night at the Alpha Tau Omega house for Mike Pietrzak, a 20-year-old University of Nevada, Reno student who is listed in critical condition at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

The Fremont Cannon will stay blue for another year. With the game tied at 20-20 and only 27 seconds remaining, Nevada’s Nick Graziano found Kyle Sammons streaking down the sideline for a 43-yard touchdown that gave the Wolf Pack a 27-20 victory over the UNLV Rebels in front of a sold out house of 25,728 fans.

In the sibling rivalry between Nevada’s two major universities, the older school is competing with its younger counterpart more and more, university and state officials said. According to university records, the younger sibling is sometimes out pacing the school that came first: the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Reno area was the dominant political force in the state. The university was the center of Nevada’s intellectual world, and its drinking club, the Sundowners, was enjoying a good reputation. Yet events were in motion that would culminate in the greatest identity crisis the school had ever faced and it all would come down to punctuation.

Officers responded to a traffic accident in the Lawlor Events Center parking lot. Police arrested an intoxicated male for driving under the influence, his second offense in a seven-year period. Officers also charged the driver with unsafe backing and assault on another person.
