But UNLV isn’t exactly a team Nevada should underestimate. With a record of 2-2, compared to the Wolf Pack’s 1-2 record, Nevada does not have much room to speak.
In UNLV’s first game of the season, the Rebels used their spread option to beat Utah State. Down 13-0 at half time, UNLV rallied back with a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
No. 9-ranked Wisconsin was expected to be more than a match for UNLV’s defense.
However, UNLV’s determination combined with mistakes made by Wisconsin almost cost the Badgers an upset.
Wisconsin barely clinched the win in the fourth quarter with a 61-yard drive, ending the game 20-13.
The next week the Rebels went head-to-head with No. 19 Hawaii.
With such a strong defense put up against Wisconsin the previous week, it seemed as though UNLV stood a good chance of gaining their second victory of the season.
The Warriors made sure that was not going to happen. With a 49-14 victory, Hawaii crushed UNLV.
The landslide didn’t phase the Rebels, however, as they beat Utah this past weekend. The Utes, who had beat then-No. 11 UCLA the previous week, were overwhelmed as the Rebels posted a 27-0 shutout.
Nevada has a similar record, with a barely-missed win over Northwestern, a beatdown of Nicholls State and annihilation at the hands of Nebraska.
