Low attack percentage doesn’t hurt Nevada

Nevada had a lower attack percentage than Fresno State in game one of Thursday’s match, but the Wolf Pack was still able to pull out the victory. The game was close, but Nevada won 30-26. The game was just the second time all season that Nevada won with a lower attack percentage than its opponent. Nevada had a .049 attack percentage and Fresno State had a .079. Even though this is not the first time that Nevada had a lower attack percentage and won, it is the biggest difference in percent this season.

Blocks

The Nevada Wolf Pack accumulated 18.5 blocks in the two games they played this weekend combined. The Wolf Pack blocked more balls than Utah State, one of the best blocking teams in the conference. Karly Sipherd and Lindsay Baldwin had seven of the 10 blocks against Utah State.

Attendance

When Nevada played Utah State last Saturday, the team had its biggest crowd supporting them. The total crowd attendance was 656. Many of the players and the head coach expressed their enthusiasm of having such a crowd behind them after the game.

The crowd attendance could be attributed to the team holding a free volleyball clinic earlier in the day, and most of the people who attended that clinic came to the game. The home environment followed a three-week road trip.

Concussed

Sipherd had to sit out the game against Fresno after suffering a concussion in the Hawaii game. Sipherd was going up to block a ball but got there just a little late and the Hawaii player spiked it right on Sipherd’s head, explained head coach Devin Scruggs.

Sipherd was in the Utah State match and played well with nine kills and five blocks. When she was asked if she is a little intimated when going up to block a ball, she said it does run through her mind but she just has to play the game. Sipherd was feeling a little dizzy on Wednesday, so the doctors decided she should sit out the game on Friday.
