Aggies skunk Nevada soccer, 2-0

Despite the return of All-WAC defender Randee Robinson, Nevada lost its third straight game on Friday after a 2-0 loss to Utah State at Mackay Stadium.

Lauren Hansen scored the Aggies’ first goal in the first five minutes of the game, and Candice Clark scored the second goal with less than six minutes to play.

For Utah State’s first goal, Candace Clark stole the ball and made a breakaway down the field where Hansen was wide open to slip the ball past freshman goalkeeper Marie Cove.

The second goal came when Clark was able to sneak out of a big clump of Nevada defenders and send a shot to the top right corner of the net.

The Wolf Pack spent a majority of the game in Utah State territory, but the Aggies defense was quick to break up plays, interrupt passes and stop Nevada from getting a clear look at the net.

In the 25th minute, Nevada forward Karen Zmirak and Utah’s Lindsey Smart collided, and both were immediately escorted into the training room. Smart received a yellow card on the play.

Robinson, a junior defender who left the team for unspecified reasons season, entered the game with seven minutes left to play. She was reinstated to the team on Thursday and got her first playing minutes of the season against the Aggies.

Nobody was available to comment on the injury status of Zmirak and Smart, and nobody would comment on Robinson’s return.

Nevada finished the game with seven shots and one shot on goal, while the Aggies finished with five shots, three of which were on goal.

Utah State goalkeeper Ali Griffin had one save in the matchup and Cove recorded two saves.
