Nevada guard Marcelus Kemp scored 19 points and freshman point guard Armon Johnson added 13, but the Wolf Pack men’s basketball team lost its season opener 63-60 to Central Florida on Sunday.
In the first game played at the new UCF Arena, the Knights used a 17-5 run started in the middle of the first half to take a 29-17 lead that the Wolf Pack couldn’t erase.
Nevada trailed 58-47 with just more than five minutes left in the game before making a late run to pull within 63-60, but Kemp missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds that would have tied the game.
Kemp shot 8-of-22 from the field and 1-of-8 from behind the arc. The Wolf Pack shot less than 42 percent from the field for the game. It turned the ball over 18 times and gave up 19 offensive rebounds.
The Wolf Pack next play at UC Irvine on Tuesday.
