The Nevada volleyball team split its two final regular season matches last week heading into the conference tournament this week.The Wolf Pack lost in four games at Utah State on Thursday before beating Utah Valley in four games on Saturday. Nevada closes out the regular season 18-10 and 10-6 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Nevada enters the WAC Tournament as the fourth seed and will face Idaho on Thursday at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. The winner will probably face the host and second-seeded New Mexico State Aggies. The Wolf Pack split with the Vandals during the regular season and lost both matches to NMSU.
Nevada held off Utah Valley, 33-31, 30-21, 26-30 and 30-28.
Karly Sipherd led three players in double figures in kills as the senior middle blocker posted a match-high of 26. Teal Ericson recorded 25 kills and Lindsay Baldwin added 11.
Ashley Miller dished out 66 assists and 11 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season. Allison Hernandez led the team with 19 digs, Nicole Link had 13 and Lauren Kelly had 10.
Utah State avenged an earlier loss and defeated Nevada 30-28, 26-30, 30-28 and 30-25. The Aggies are tied with the Wolf Pack in the standings.
Nevada matched evenly with Utah State as it doubled the Aggies in blocks, 14-7. The Aggies, though, out-hit the Pack, 69-68 in kills and .244 to .217 in attack percentage.
Ericson led the team with 22 kills and Sipherd added 17. Baldwin had 14 kills and six block assists while Sipherd led with seven.
Miller dished out 55 assists and had 15 digs for a double-double. She tied Hernandez for the team-lead in digs.
