Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards made a final rallying call Thursday night trying to push supporters to the Saturday caucus.

The former North Carolina senator spoke at the Carpenter Union hall for about 15 minutes. He touched on many of his major campaign goals but in the time: universal health care, pulling America out of Iraq and eliminating trade agreements giving tax benefits for outsourced jobs.

“This is a battle for the heart and soul of the middle class of America, that’s what this election is about,” Edwards said.

While he gave the expected speech about campaign platforms, his main point was urging people to caucus on his behalf. He told the crowd to have guts at the caucus and to stand up for the candidate they believe in – “i.e. me,” he said.

“God bless you, go to the caucus,” Edwards said just before the end.

Jeremiah Todd, an Associated Students of the University of Nevada senator and president of Lambda Chi Alpha, said he plans to caucus Saturday but wanted to see the candidates speak before hand.

He said he liked Edwards’ idea for universal health care, with Edwards plan to pull combat troops out of Iraq coming in second.

“He seems like a great candidate,” he said.

Just a matter of time before he bows out of the race. It takes a near recession for the country to realize that race and gender should not factor in who we elect as president. Finally!

Pack up your bags and head home Edwards. It is not your election year.
