Police link second case to Denison disappearance
Reno police have linked another case from November to the Brianna Denison disappearance using DNA evidence, Reno police said at a Thursday press conference.
Police also said that the media coverage of the Denison disappearance prompted a female student to report another sexual assault that happened Oct. 22. Police said they have no definite link between the other cases and the October assault.
The October victim, who is in her early 20s, told university police Jan. 30 that a white male came from behind and forced her to the ground in the Brian Whalen Parking Garage, police said.
He held a black-and-silver handgun to her head and sexually assaulted her about 10 p.m., police said.
“Unfortunately it’s been since October that that crime occurred, so our information in the case is severely limited,”said Cmdr. Ron Holladay of the Reno Police Department.
Holladay said the description of the suspect (see below) is similar with the description in the other attacks, though not enough to link them.
“You have to take (the description) with a grain of salt because of the amount of time that has passed,”Holladay said.
RPD created a timeline of four linked crimes, including the disappearance of Brianna Denison:
- Nov. 13 at 5:55 a.m.: a female was battered and sexually groped in the 400 black of College Drive
- Dec. 16 at 2 a.m.: A female was battered and kidnapped from the 1400 block of North Virginia Street, sexually assaulted and returned home
- Jan. 19 at 5 a.m.: an unknown suspect unsuccessfully attempted to break into the home of the December victim
- Jan. 20 at 4:30 a.m.: Denison goes missing from a friend’s couch.
Police did not say the source of the DNA evidence.
Police have a two unopened Trojan-brand condoms from the November assault. Holladay shook his head when asked if condoms were found at any other assault.
He said media coverage of the assaults have caused a number of leads to come forward.
The description of the October sexual assault suspect is:
- White male
- Light brown/dirty blond hair
- Between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall
- Slender to medium build
- Was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with no zippers or markings, silver nylon athletic-type pants with black stripes and white tennis shoes.
The description of the suspect in the other cases:
- White male- 28 to 40 years old
- Long face with square chin- Brown hair of an undetermined style
- Taller than 5 foot 6 inches, but not excessively so
- Strong but not significantly muscular
- Facial hair between a quarter- and half-inch long

- Was wearing a red short-sleeve shirt similar in feel to a Fubu jersey with a medium blue-colored neckline and a short, possibly embroidered word on the upper-left breast area. He wore another shirt underneath with wrist-length sleeves, unknown colored pants
– not jeans
– that were similar to basketball pants in that they were smooth and made no noise as he moved.
