Patraw concludes testimony

Former Nevada soccer coach Terri Patraw gave testimony Thursday in the third day of her whistle blower hearing against the University of Nevada, Reno.

Patraw is suing for her job back after saying she was fired Aug. 28 for reporting NCAA violations against men’s golf coach Rich Merritt.

Patraw’s testimony included more information on alleged details in the complaint documents.

More information was given on her sexual harassment allegations against men’s basketball coach Mark Fox.

Patraw said Fox told her and Nevada volleyball coach Devin Scruggs “you two look like lesbians on a date,” at a wine tasting event in 2006.

Scruggs testified shortly after Patraw and said that Fox said “Wow, you two look like you’re on a date,” which was similar to testimony given by both Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth and Executive Athletic Director Cindy Fox, Mark Fox’s wife.

Patraw also said the NCAA is conducting an investigation on the athletics department.

Patraw spent a lot of time explaining why she was “the most successful and ethical coach” at Nevada.

She gave a presentation showing diagrams relating her success on the field compared to others.

Patraw finished 26-27-7 in her three-year stint as the women’s soccer coach, leading her team to a Western Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Tournament in 2006, both program firsts.

After going 2-15-1, Patraw led the Wolf Pack to a 13-5-1 record the following season, marking the best turn-around season in the country.

UNR still has three rebuttal witnesses. The next hearing is Monday in Morrill Hall.
