University of Nevada, Reno sophomore Brock Stassi spent this summer as a member of the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox, a professional-grade community baseball team, in the Horizon Air Summer Baseball Series. The Horizon Air Summer Series is an eleven-week competition among teams from the western United States comprised of today’s best college baseball players. Here, he earned first-team honors as an outfielder.
For the Gold Sox, he hit .359 with 29 runs scored and 25 RBIs while pitching only one inning for a team that went 35-11. The Gold Sox finished only a half game away from winning the league title this season.
In the spring, Stassi pitched in 17 games for the Wolf Pack, going 4-2 with a 4.85 ERA. He did not play any other position throughout the season. Nevada went 35-26 while losing in the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference game to Fresno State.
