The Associated Students of the University of Nevada is accepting applications for five vacant senate seats. The open seats are for the College of Science, the Division of Health Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Education and the College of Business.
Speaker of the Senate Priscilla Acosta said seven hours a week is required for the job. She said the job could take more time if the applicant is particularly dedicated or is serving a larger college.
Those interested can pick up and turn in an application at the ASUN front desk on the third floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union. The application requires a short essay and a 2.7 university GPA.
Applicants will attend a senate meeting where they will give a short presentation. The senate will then vote to approve the applicants.
For more information, contact Priscilla Acosta at speaker@asun.unr.edu or call the ASUN front desk at 775-784-6589.

Five vacant seats? Whatever happened? Did our brave leaders finally get around to reading the job requirements, or did their GPA fall below the laughable 2.7 threshold?

Well Grigory, if you must know, two seats were never filled during the elections last semester, and three of the seats are now vacant. Also, not one of the three senators was removed for grades, as you imply, but all three resigned for personal reasons. How about instead of sneering at our “laughable” standards you take some initiative and get involved with ASUN. If you feel there are problems with your student government, you are more than welcome as a student to talk with your representatives and let your opinions be known or to get involved yourself. Despite what is reported on ASUN and Senate in general lately, they are here to help students. Give ‘em a call at (775) 784-6589.
