Nevada coach Mark Fox suspended basketball players Brandon Fields, London Giles and Ahyaro Phillips after they were cited with misdemeanor petty larceny Wednesday, the university announced.
The players were arrested at Scheels sports store at the Legend of Sparks Marina, NBC News 4 reported.
Scheels would not comment on the incident.
“I am extremely disappointed to learn of this situation,” Fox said in a press release released Thursday. “I do not know all of the facts right now and will not have any further comment until I have a better understanding of the situation.”
Fox has already discussed the incident with his players, Nevada athletic director Cary Groth said.
“I commend Fox on his quick action,” Groth said. “He is good at these situations.”
The City of Sparks Police Department released the players Wednesday afternoon, but Groth said the university wasn’t informed until today.
The investigation is ongoing and information cannot be released at this time, a representative at the Sparks Police Department said.
“We are waiting to see what comes from the investigation,” Groth said. “We have to remember we are dealing with young people and some aren’t going to have good judgment.”
Fields, a junior, was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic team last season. He also shared the Defensive Player of the Year award with teammate Lyndale Burleson. He was third on the team last season in points per game (12.4).
Phillips and Giles are in their first season with Wolf Pack.

God, this is like a repeat of our football team from like 5 years ago. At least the basketball players didn’t steal with a deadly weapon.
