Annual ResHall pageant draws students

About 130 students flocked to the to annual Mr. Res Hall pageant 7 p.m. Friday in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater.

The event, sponsored by the Residence Hall Association, pitted male representatives from various dormitories against each other in a variety of contests. Audience members voted on their favorite contestants.

Nye Hall’s Joe Zikakis won Mr. ResHall and the Women’s Choice Award.

Argenta Hall’s Troy Shields won second and Lucian Matthew, from Nye Hall, won third.

Other candidates for Mr. Res Hall were Jacob Neely and Nick Grapp from White Pine Hall, David Kert from Canada Hall, Andrew Church from Argenta Hall and Alex Brown from Sierra Hall.

Many students said they enjoyed the competition.

“I was happy with the way it turned out,” said Amanda Jackson, a 20-year-old secondary education and English double-major. “It’s been improving as the years go by.”

After group Cupid Shuffle and Cha Cha dance routines, contestants participated in the “Day at the Beach” segment. One contestant stripped to his underwear, while another donned diver gear.

The talent show also contained a variety of acts from rhythmic gymnastics to a stand-up monologue.

After the formal wear segment, hosts quizzed competitors on dorm policies.

Audience members voted during intermission, after which contestants showed off their best pick-up lines.

The event ended with winner Zikakis’s crowning.

Amanda Arsenaux, RHA’s vice president of programming, said she was pleased with the pageant.

“We had a large turnout, and the contestants had fun,” she said.
