The Nevada Sagebrush wins top national awards (update)

The Nevada Sagebrush was honored as one of the best college newspapers in the country by the Associated Collegiate Press this weekend, winning top honors in three categories and placing in two others.

The Sagebrush’s 2007-2008 Pacemaker Award recognizes general excellence and outstanding achievement among non-daily college newspapers from across the country. Only about 10 newspapers win the annual award.

On Sunday, the Sagebrush was also awarded a first place Best In Show award for overall excellence in newspapers published since Sept. 1.

Michael Higdon, the public editor for the Sagebrush, won first place for infographic design of the year at the same convention.

The Sagebrush Web site, www.nevadasagebrush.com , was a finalist in the Pacemaker competition.

Casey Durkin, a Sagebrush staff reporter, won a second place Best In Show award for best interactive element for his video documenting the challenges facing a student with mobility impairment.
