Pack moves into second place in WAC with late-game heroics

The Nevada football team came back in dramatic fashion Saturday for a 35-31 win against Louisiana Tech in its final regular season game of the year.

The Wolf Pack (7-5, 5-3) trailed 31-14 with 1:27 left in the third quarter, but Nevada stormed back for 21 unanswered points to all but clinch its fourth-straight bowl game appearance.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick led the Wolf Pack with his arm instead of his legs in the win.

Kaepernick passed for 378 yards on 23 of 39 pass attempts and four touchdowns.

The Wolf Pack offense dominated in the fourth quarter for 183 yards compared to 37 yards for Louisiana Tech.

The Bulldogs took a 31-14 lead after running back Patrick Johnson rushed for a four-yard touchdown run with 4:48 left in the third quarter.

The Wolf Pack answered the following drive with a nine play, 76-yard drive ending on an 18-yard Kaepernick touchdown pass to receiver Marko Mitchell.

Nevada pulled within three points when Kaepernick connected with McCoy for a 27-yard touchdown play with 11:42 left in the fourth quarter.

The Wolf Pack scored the game-winning touchdown with 3:15 left in the game after running back Vai Taua capped a four play, 80-yard drive on a 22-yard run.

Nevada rushed for only 99 yards Saturday, which was its worst single-game rushing performance of the season. Nevada averaged 308 rushing yards per game before its visit to Ruston, La.

The Wolf Pack moved into a second-place tie with Hawaii, who beat Nevada earlier this season 38-31 and will play an out-of-conference game 8 p.m. today against Washington State.
