Beer pong tourney to attract thousands
The biggest beer pong tournament in the world is being planned by four University of Nevada, Reno students.
The tournament will feature 1,000 teams of two players each from all over the West Coast with the winners walking away with $10,000. The tournament will take place Aug. 11 to 13 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
Sean Nelson, one of the founders of College Beer Pong Championship, said he and his partners want their company to support college students.
“Every college kid talks about having a big beer pong tournament and that’s what we’re doing,”Nelson said.
Nelson said their hope is that this tournament will become an annual event that will draw more students each year. The company has plans of hosting up to 3,000 to 5,000 students in the next couple years and turning it into a nationwide event.

Geoff Deal, another founder of CBPC, said they want to “bring (college students) something they don’t necessarily have”already in their area.
As their idea started materializing, they realized that they all have something to contribute to the company and started working on it together, Deal said.
The company has a lot of future plans, including developing scholarship money for college students.
“The whole goal is to put students through college,”Deal said.
So far the group has accumulated a private investor, a sponsorship by Budweiser and hosts like Northstar-at-Tahoe, Amendment 21 Bar & Grill and others.
Davis Putt, one of the founders of CBPC, said they have a lot of people backing them that believe in their cause, but that doesn’t include everybody.
Wesley Smith, a 19-year-old computer science major at UNR who hasn’t drank alcohol before, said he thinks beer pong is a game meant for social drinkers.
“I’d rather not have my first drinking experience be a drinking game,”Smith said.
The CBPC is not trying to promote binge drinking, Putt said. People participating in the tournament are only allowed four drinks per day.
There will be judges at each of the tables monitoring fair play and enforcing the rules along with a senior judge for each section of tables.
Each team that signs up is guaranteed to play at least eight games, four each of the first two days. Each team will consist of two players, 12 cups and two balls.
In order to compete in the tournament participants must be over the age of 21 and have valid college student identification.
People wishing to watch the event must be at least 21 years old. For a three-day pass to the event it is $10 and for just one day it is $5.
“It’s not just a tournament…it’s actually an experience that everyone’s going to be able to be a part of,”Putt said.

Wow this event sounds like it’s going to be pretty legit. A three day party with a chance to win $10,000? Count me in.

Sorry to say this, but this event is going to fail unless you remove the “college only” restriction and make some serious changes to the rules and format.
Take a look at the following for tips:

How are the rules we use at Nevada better than all other rules? I know people like to party here, but we are by no means experts.
Free beer? A bunch of frat guys yelling? Of course every douche will run to it.

Eric, the superiority of Nevada rules is just something you cant question.

Of course I can’t, it’s something that is dreamt up by a bunch of drunken fools with no additional arguments to back it up. :P

Awesome. Can’t wait for this event. Eric, why so critical?

I just like ripping apart baseless arguments.

Thorny, YOU SUCK! Have a beer or two and relax. Unplug your computer. Please.

I don’t mind good beer, I am just pointing out some things here.

Thornley. Let me make this clear. The rules of beer pong are kind of like God. Either you follow or you don’t. This isn’t something that can be argued or debated.
Given your propensity to comment on every single piece posted on this website, I’m going to make an assumption you’ve never actually played beer pong and therefore can’t understand where those of who fancy ourselves skilled participants in the new game of Kings are coming from.

Uh, Shane, I have played Beer Pong before and I am aware there are at least 500+ rule sets to play from. To declare one rule set is superior to all others just because it is from Nevada is rather silly. I am sorry that you do not understand this.

Who cares what the reasoning is for choosing those rules. Obviously not everyone will agree with it, you can’t make everyone happy! Is there only a $10,000 prize, or will there be prizes for 2nd, 3rd, etc?

“Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt”
I can tell that you are trying to make a name for yourself, but commenting non-stop on everything is not the way to do it. Though you make good points sometimes, often it is overshadowed by your constant negativity. Silence is often more powerful than anything you could say.

I’m not commenting on everything non-stop. You are right though, It’s not like I care about this subject deeply anyways. I have better things to do.

I’m developing a new game and I’m looking for some test subjects. The working title for the game is ‘BoozeBoarding’ and it’s based on the interrogation technique recently abandoned by the Obama regime. The way things are developing it’s gonna be the next big thing. The results of the initial testing have been quite good and it seems the learning curve is within the grasp of nearly everyone.
