As the infamous University of Nevada, Las Vegas game approaches, university officials say game-day policies won’t change. Extra security will patrol the stadium before, during and after the game to monitor the extra drinking and inappropriate fan behavior that the UNLV game is known to entice.
“We want people to come and enjoy it, but there are some times when fans get out of hand,” said Keith Hackett, the director of athletic facilities at the University of Nevada, Reno. “If fans are going to come just to drink, then we’d rather they not come. It’s not about tailgating; it’s about watching some good college football.”
Fan Behavior Policies at Mackay Stadium:
➤ The stadium has a new zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate fan behavior and fans who fail to follow the rules will be asked to leave the game, could have their event tickets confiscated and may be arrested.
➤ Fans who are visibly intoxicated will not be allowed to enter the stadium.
➤ Outside alcohol will not be allowed into Mackay Stadium.
➤ Alcohol cannot be consumed in line.
➤ Parking lots open four hours early for tailgating.
➤ Kegs are not allowed in the tailgating areas.
➤ Smoking is only allowed in the designated smoking area behind the bleachers in the north endzone. Smoklng is not allowed anywhere else in Mackay Stadium.
Other policies:
➤ One 20-oz. sealed clear water bottle of non-flavored water will be allowed into the stadium per person.
➤ Backpacks, large bags, hard coolers and open beverage containers are not allowed in the stadium.
➤ Food items will only be allowed into Mackay Stadium if carried into the stadium in clear plastic Ziploc bags.
Extra security:
➤ Police officers on horseback will help patrol the UNLV-Nevada game.
➤ Additional law enforcement will patrol the stadium during the game, especially at entrances.
