Quick summary of Nevada’s 31-21 victory over Hawaii
FIRST QUARTER
Hawaii started the game strong, scoring on its first two drives to take a 14-0 lead. The second touchdown of the quarter was a 71-yard pass from quarterback Bryant Moniz to wide receiver Jovonte Taylor. Taylor caught the ball on a short, 11 yard pass, then turned up field, blowing by Nevada cornerback Antoine Thompson, who overran the play.
Nevada responded and scored its first touchdown of the game as quarterback Colin Kaepernick finishes off a 11-play drive with a two-yard rush into the end zone.
SECOND QUARTER
Vai Taua caught a 6 six-yard screen pass from Kaepernick and scrambles 24 yards to the end zone and ties the game at 14.
On the ensuing Hawaii drive, strong safety Mo Harvey picks off Moniz and returns the ball seven yards.
Four plays later, Kaepernick scrambled for a 38-yard touchdown with 31 seconds left in the half. The score gives Nevada its first lead of the of the game, 21-14.
THIRD QUARTER
Hawaii drives deep into Nevada territory, but an interception in the end zone by Nevada cornerback Doyle Miller ends Hawaii’s possession.
The Wolf Pack capitalize by going on a six-play drive capped off by a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kaepernick to Tray Session to put Nevada up 28-14. This is Session’s first career reception for a touchdown.
FOURTH QUARTER
Hawaii caps off its most impressive drive of the game (80 yards in 12 plays) when Taylor scores his second touchdown on a four yard passing play from Moniz.
Nevada answers Taylor’s touchdown with a 10 play, 45 yard drive that ends in Ricky Drake’s successful 27 yard Field Goal.
The field goal gives Nevada a 31-21 lead, clinching the victory for the Wolf Pack.
