Football: Pack agrees to three-game deal with Cal Bears
As part of a three-game series, the Nevada football team will play the University of California, Berkeley on Sept. 18, 2010. at Mackay Stadium.
Earlier today, both schools agreed the Bears will visit the Wolf Pack once and Nevada will travel to California twice. The dates for the games held in Berkeley will be announced at a later date. Click here to read the full release.
Next season’s game between the two schools will be the 34th meeting between the schools, but only the second since 1934.
“We are very excited to have this preliminary agreement with Cal as it is a natural fit,” Nevada senior associate athletic director Rory Hickok said. “In terms of a regional matchup between two highly-competitive teams, this series makes sense.”
The game against Cal in 2010 will begin a stretch of seven-straight seasons in which Nevada will play at least one Pac-10 team.
For the 2010 season, Nevada is currently scheduled to open at home on Sept. 11 against Colorado State before hosting Cal the following week. After that, the Wolf Pack is scheduled to go on the road to BYU and UNLV before Western Athletic Conference play begins.
However, because Nevada plays at Hawaii next year, the option to play a 13th game does exist.
“We will explore the option of securing a 13th game for the 2010 schedule and it will be a home game to open the season,” Hickok said. “With the direction our football program is moving and the high-caliber product we anticipate having next season, we feel that we owe it to our fans to play seven home games in 2010.”
Hickok noted that the dialogue between Nevada and San Diego State has led to further scheduling opportunities in other sports.
What we know about the Wolf Pack’s 2010 football schedule:
–Game 1) Sept. 11 vs. Colorado State
–Game 2) Sept. 18 vs. California
–Game 3) at Brigham Young University
–Game 4) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
–Rest of schedule) Western Athletic Conference play: vs. Boise State, vs. San Jose State, vs. New Mexico State, vs. Utah State, at Fresno State, at Hawaii, at Idaho, at Louisiana Tech.

sweet, not necessarily the best of the Pac 10 but this is a big step for the Pack, and a win could really do a lot for the program’s national respect, so long as its not another Notre Dame
