During the process of filming the hilarious documentary “Good Hair,” Rock is not only enlightened on topics such as hair weaves, wigs and relaxers, but he also unearths the social implications behind many black women’s efforts to have “good hair.”

Tyra misleads young viewers


On Dec. 28, 2009, the heavens opened up and my faith in humanity was once again restored with news that “The Tyra Banks Show” was finally coming to an end after being on the air for five agonizing seasons. My happiness was cut short when Banks announced she cancelled the show to go on a new mission to “…reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are,” — as if she hasn’t injected her gullible fans with enough stupidity already. Banks must be stopped for the sake of society, the easily misguided youth of the nation and pop culture.

Metal ‘Death Punches’ Reno


Showcasing intensity at its highest, the Knitting Factory celebrated its eighth sold-out show with hardcore and metal rockers 2Cents, God Forbid, Shadows Fall and Five Finger Death Punch. With each band bringing its own style of screaming guitar riffs and exploding energy, the venue was a wave of bouncing bodies, flashing strobes and crowd surfers.

Circuit-bending class rewires music


Wires, soldering irons, plastic keyboards bought from thrift stores and garage sales — these were the items laid out on the table at a circuit-bending workshop Saturday. The idea is to create unique electronic instruments by altering the circuit boards.
