Nevada announces spring schedule
The Nevada women’s soccer team has announced a five game spring schedule.
The Wolf Pack will kick off its spring season March 27 when Nevada travels to UNLV to play back-to-back games against UNLV and BYU.
The Wolf Pack will then travel to UC Davis April 3 to play a double header against UC Davis and the California Storm.
Nevada concludes its spring season at home with its annual alumni game on April 17. The games will be the Wolf Pack’s first games under first-year head coach Missy Price, who took over for former head coach Jaime Frias.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Wiggins earns coach of the year
Fresno State head coach Adrian Wiggins was selected as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region 7 Coach of the Year.
Under Wiggins, the Bulldogs went 16-0 in conference play during the regular season and won a school-record 27 games overall as the Bulldogs won the WAC regular season title.
In addition, Fresno State posted its highest RPI (27) and had a 19-game winning streak en route to earning the school’s first-ever at-large berth in the 2010 women’s NCAA Tournament where the team lost to Baylor in the first round.
Wiggins is now qualified as a finalist for the national coach of the year award, which will be announced April 5.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Hawaii announces new men’s coach
The University of Hawaii named Gib Arnold its men’s basketball head coach Saturday.
Arnold will be the 19th head coach in program history. Arnold was an assistant coach at the University of Southern California for the past five seasons.
During his tenure, he helped the Trojans record three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
Prior to coaching at USC, Arnold served as head coach at the College of Southern Idaho, where he posted a 57-14 record. He led Southern Idaho to a 24-11 record in 2004 and a trip to the NJCAA tournament.
