Erica Greif, 23-year-old student at the University of Nevada, Reno, was killed in a car crash early Wednesday. Greif was a nutrition and dietetics major set to graduate this spring, and worked as a barista at Bibo Coffee Co.
A competitive cyclist, Greif was en route to the Redlands Bicycle Classic in Highland, California. According to a report by Southern California news outlet Bakersfield Now, the crash occurred just after midnight on Highway 395 in Ridgecrest, California.
Greif was a member of the ZOCA-Halo Sports Hedrick Women’s Racing Team, and was driving throughout Tuesday night after taking an exam at UNR in order to participate in a race Wednesday morning.
Martin Santos, Greif’s team coach, commemorated her in a Facebook post earlier today.
“This is devastating news to me, her family, friends and team mates [sic],” Santos wrote. “Words cannot express the sadness and emptiness of my/our feelings of her loss.”
