April is the time of the semester when it’s almost time to ditch the textbooks and snag that bikini you’ve been eyeing since February before heading to the beach for the next three months. Even if the weather has been unstable the past couple of weeks, temperatures are starting to rise and we’re well on our way to hot summer days, so it’s time to throw your parkas and fluffy coats back into the closet for the next few months and trade them in for little crop tops and flowy dresses.
High-low dresses are always trending during the warmer months; they’re versatile and can be worn in many different colors while at the same time be kept casual for class or dressed up with accessories and stilettos for a dinner date.
Taylor Landis, a sophomore student, is wearing a light gray high-low dress paired with camel-colored booties and a simple belt to complete her campus casual look. The dress is light enough to keep her cool and comfortable as the temperature gets higher while the heeled booties add more style to make the entire outfit pop.
“It’s always exciting when the weather gets warmer; there’s more flexibility on what you can wear. Summer is the best season to wear different kinds of outfits and experiment with different styles,” Landis said.
Another option if you’re feeling more edgy this summer is crop tops. With many different colors, patterns and different types of fit to choose from depending on what you’re comfortable with, crop tops are perfect for a day on campus or even a night out if dressed up properly.
You can even get creative with crop tops and make your own out of clothes you already have. Monica Gonzalez, a sophomore, made this crop top that she’s wearing out of a scarf.
“I like getting creative with my outfits during the summer, it’s always faster to work with what I have and it saves money too,” Gonzalez said.
Lace and floral crop tops have grown to be even more popular for festival wear since festivals always take place in the summertime. Festival wear can also be worn on a normal day and can easily be mixed and matched. High-waisted shorts and acid-wash denim are also very popular in the spring and summer seasons whether it be for festival wear or campus wear.
If you want to show more skin, go with a mini crop top and high-waisted shorts. It’s a simple yet stylish way to stay cool when it’s hot, and you’ll be festival ready at the same time.
