Thursday marks this year’s International Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Across the world, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups will be preparing vigils to honor the lives of those lost in 2008 and the years prior. Victims like Brandon Teena may have received publicity and Hollywood dramatization, but there are hundreds of victims whose names will never be widely known.
