Student senate against tuition increase


The student senate passed a resolution Wednesday night against a proposed tuition increase. The Board of Regents will discuss the increase at their meeting this week. The resolution, originally written by former senator Taylor R. Anderson and sponsored by Sens. Priscilla Acosta and Jennifer Richards underwent many amendments before being passed.

University’s falling retention rates draw concern


According to the report, 75.5 percent of the 2007 freshman class returned to UNR this year, down from 79 percent the year before. The retention rates indicate the overall success of the university and are a factor in various national rankings and assessments, university officials said. Fewer students also means less state funding. “This is a very serious matter,” UNR President Milton Glick said. “It's obviously a disappointment to us.”

Judicial council dismisses charges against Gunn


The judicial council dismissed two charges filed against Associated Students of the University of Nevada Senate secretary Caitlin Gunn Monday. The council decided to dismiss the charges after Gunn resigned as secretary, according to its formal opinion.

Student senate secretary Caitlin Gunn resigned Oct. 13. The resignation comes after student Sen. Lee Massey filed two charges accusing Gunn of misconduct. Though she resigned, Gunn still served as secretary at last week's senate meeting. Gunn has not resigned as Flipside films chair.

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada Senate passed a resolution Wednesday expressing its approval of plans to fill a space on the third floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union with a restaurant concept. The resolution offers a student voice to the process of filling the space and contains no binding law.

ASUN officer charged for two constitutional violations


Student Sen. Lee Massey filed two charges with the student judicial council against Caitlin Gunn last week. Gunn is currently serving as the Flipside Films Chair and Associated Students of the University of Nevada Senate Secretary. The first charge alleges that Gunn is in violation of the ASUN constitution by holding two offices. The second charge states Gunn has not sufficiently performed her job as senate secretary.

Money, new group add to bigger homecoming

Reno works to help the homeless


While students pretended to be homeless, the Graybeals and others struggle to live every day. The couple was forced from their thin, nylon home when the Temporary Emergency Overflow Area, or Tent City, closed Monday for the winter.

‘Night without a home’ gives students a taste of homelessness


Students attended the event, Night Without a Home, to experience sleeping in a cardboard box and raise money and awareness of homelessness in Reno.
