University of Nevada, Reno officials will host a town hall meeting in the Joe Crowley Student Union ballroom 1 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the recent budget cuts requested by Gov. Jim Gibbons. The cuts would be a part of the 14 percent cuts to the biennium budget, in addition to the 4.5 percent cuts the university made at the beginning of the year.

Three earthquakes from a 3.0 to a 4.2 magnitude struck the Somersett and Mogul area Thursday afternoon, shaking up the university and Reno area.

The first earthquake happened at 3:47 p.m. with a 4.1 magnitude followed by a 3.0 and the 4.2 at 3:55 p.m., according to the United State Geological Survey in Northern California and the University of Nevada, Reno Seismology Laboratory.

Nevada football coach Chris Ault was seen talking to NCAA personnel for about an hour Wednesday as part of an investigation into the athletic department.

Ault, who’s in his third stint as Nevada’s head coach, was in a room with two male investigators and Dr. Jean Perry, Nevada’s special assistant to the president for athletics academics and compliance.

The editor and manager selection committee picked the heads of The Artemisia, the Brushfire and Wolf Pack Radio for the 2008-2009 school year on Saturday.

The editor of The Artemisia magazine will be Clarissa León, a story editor. Ashley Hennefer, Brushfire assistant editor, will head the art journal. Van Pham, Wolf Pack Radio programming director, will be the first female general manager for the radio station.

After students questioned the legitimacy of last month’s Associated Students of the University of Nevada elections and the results were put on hold, the student government officials were sworn into office Wednesday night. The 76th session senators elected incumbent Sen. Priscilla Acosta to be speaker of the senate.
