For many University of Nevada, Reno graduates, walking across the stage on the historic Quad is the symbolic end of an era. But for some students, smaller celebrations are better suited for acknowledging the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. A former current Nevada student winter olympian had an important piece of property returned to her in a unique way last week. A ring commemorating Tristan Gale Geisler's 2002 Olympic gold medal in skeleton sledding was turned in to the police department by a faculty member after being found in a University of Nevada, Reno campus bathroom, Todd Renwick, a commander at the UNR Police Department, said.

Invisible Children’s “Cover The Night” was a worldwide event to encourage communities to hang posters to spread awareness of Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda. Previously, three college students organized a plan for the event to be held in Reno’s city plaza but was canceled due to the complications of financial issues and lack of support by the public. Some supporters planned to hang posters regardless of the status of Reno’s participation, but Hannah Aguirre, a junior at Hug, wished that more of the public would help spread the word.

Suicide affects many students at UNR. More than 110 students approach counselors on campus after thinking about killing themselves every semester, according to numbers from counseling services. I used to hate you. To me, you were a big, corrupt place full of people who have bottomless wallets. You got the national spotlight simply because of your enormous population. I thought you drew in dreamers and ate them alive.

When I was handed a set of poi (tethered weights), I felt like a deer in headlights — I had no clue how to use them. But then I felt determined; I was just given two artistic objects that were desperate to be used for a performance. I must learn how to operate these contraptions, I thought.

Students might see a flock of classmates exit the room Thursday to protest shriveling departments and inflating tuition on campus.
“The tactic of the walkout is to remind not necessarily the staff but the university administration that they depend on the students to keep this whole thing going,” said Occupy Reno student group member Benjamin Castro, who said he has been preparing for the event for about a month. “It’s a protest against higher tuition and lower quality of education. It’s kind of to remind the administration that they work for the students — not the other way around.”

Brad Sappington, a student at Goucher College in Maryland, turned to his friends one day in 2005 and told them he had always wanted to see 50 people chasing one student across campus.
The small group made it happen. They created a game involving Nerf guns, socks and bandanas, based the game loosely on tag and tied it to the zombie mythos. An empire was born — the Humans vs. Zombies empire. Latching onto Facebook, which was just beginning to open up to students at non-Ivy League schools at the time, Humans vs. Zombies spread like wildfire, leaping from city to city and drawing in tens of thousands.
