University of Nevada, Reno students are boycotting and raising awareness about the controversial gossip forum Juicy Campus in an attempt to maintain an ethical college experience.

Cody Wagner, the Interfraternity Council President, started a Facebook group boycotting the anonymous Web site. Since the Facebook group’s creation nearly two weeks ago, it has gained the support of more than 200 students.

The Student Organizations as Academic Resource program and the ASUN 24-Hour Study Hall are looking for tutors.
Members of any campus club or organization are eligible to help tutor before final exams. Sessions will run from 3 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11 and 14.

The Degree Audit Report System (DARS) recently underwent a system update. The changes affect the way students use the system, Melisa Choroszy, the University of Nevada, Reno’s associate vice president of enrollment services, said.

On Dec. 10 students can help children in Ethiopia by designing their own shoes as part of an event, “Style Your Soles.”

Flipside Productions and TOMS Shoes will host the event. TOMS Shoes is a Santa Monica-based shoe company that is working to donate shoes to children in need, in order to prevent a common serious disease.

Channeling the spirit of JC Chasez, child-sized college students popped and locked along the stage to N*Sync songs. With Sharpie beards and baggy pants, the four cross-dressed women of Queer-Sync took first place at the Queer Student Union’s (QSU) Second Annual Drag Show, topping off a sporadic night of festivities.

A mini cell service site will be installed inside the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center by mid-January, so people can dial 9-1-1 in the brick building. Until the cell site is installed, people can dial 9-1-1 on a landline at the help desks throughout the knowledge center.

The Fifth Annual Student World Water Forum gave students a “crash course” about global and local water issues Thursday and Friday.
Professors worked with a committee of graduate students to plan the event. Both graduate and undergraduate students gave a total of 74 oral presentations throughout the two-day forum, with themes ranging from climate change to contamination and agriculture.

White Ribbon Week hit close to home for some University of Nevada, Reno students while the weeklong campaign raised awareness about domestic violence. The campaign put on events like a dance and a movie night.

This year, the club plans to create teams to compete in the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Competition. The Governor’s Cup is a statewide competition in which student teams from Nevada’s colleges and universities produce full start-up business plans. They compete for cash prizes of $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000 for first, second and third places, respectively.

Sitting alone in a chilly dorm room more than 30 years ago, Kyung-il Ghymn spent his first Thanksgiving by himself.
The former international student said he wants no one to experience that. For this reason, the University of Nevada, Reno professor has hosted Thanksgiving dinners for the past 20 years and welcomed UNR’s international students and scholars to a massive meal.

A ruling is pending in the case of Anderson vs. Entsminger after the student judicial council heard the case Thursday night. The charge was filed because former student senator Taylor Anderson believes the free tutoring program, SOAR, was created illegally.

University of Nevada, Reno students should expect a tuition increase as the state tries to solve its budget shortfall, Nevada legislators and regents said. But while all students face the possibility of higher fees, others continue to receive tuition discounts.
