Letter to the editor: Response to HIV outbreak rumors

From VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood First, the members of VOX, the sex education and policy influence club, would like to commend the quick and decisive response of the University and its health center regarding the unfounded rumor about an HIV outbreak. Student concerns stemmed from a rumor coinciding with April’s STD Awareness month. Fortunately there was little [...]

Letter to the editor: Response to staff editorial

This letter is in response to your staff editorial from the April 10 edition titled, “RAs should be able to speak to media,” and to your coverage of the HIV scare overall. I am a current Community Assistant of Canada Hall, but I write to you today only as a student here at the University of Nevada who was troubled by some of the implications and insinuations from your coverage of this event. However, as a gesture of goodwill, I would like to share with your editorial staff a short story that I wrote.

Letter to the Editor: Roundabout idea is the pits

A roundabout is an awful idea. I cannot see how this helps congestion.

Letter to the Editor: Cupcakes, porn and the interfaith prayer room

A stroll through the Knowledge Center last week brought cupcakes, porn and an epiphany about what the UNR Interfaith Prayer Room could be.

Letter to the Editor: Concerns regarding UNR/UNLV rivalry

I have to say that as someone from the outside looking in, I was appalled when I visited my first-ever Nevada football game vs. UNLV.

Letter to the editor: Thoughts on former ASUN Sen. Garcia’s resignation

This is in regards to Juan Garcia. for the school year 2008-2009, I was a senator with ASWN at Western Nevada College. The previous year Mr. Garcia was a senator for ASWN, and really did not fulfill his duties. The year that I served, he came on as a representative and was supposed to assist me in a couple of projects. He did not. He did not show up to meetings and his service to Western Nevada was disappointing. ASWN does have very strict rules, but since it is still a community college (yes, it is still a community college) there is some give and take.

Letter to the Editor

Received April, 26 by email: I was concerned when, earlier this academic year, some multiculturalist groups tried to restrict who could come to the UNR campus to debate issues surrounding immigration policy. Fortunately, some faculty members came forward to defend academic freedom and freedom of speech. However, terms in the debate over immigration continue to [...]

Letter to the Editor

Received April, 17 by email: Governor Sandoval, We as students representing the universities in this state would like to express our extreme concern over the state of our system of higher education. A lot of numbers have been thrown around lately; we are the faces of those numbers, our education should not be compromised because [...]

Letter to the Editor

Dr. Glick knew the importance of what we have to say and took that into account when tough decisions had to be made.

Letter to the Editor

Sent March 26, by email: Dear Editor: In the Mar. 22 issue of the Nevada Sagebrush, which featured my picture on the front page, columnist Nic Dunn claimed that “Governor Sandoval’s proposed budget would reduce NSHE’s state funding to 2006 levels.”  If only! The state-funded operating budget for the Nevada System of Higher Education is [...]

Letter to the editor

Education budget cuts concerns.

Letter to the editor

AAUW hopes women at the UNR and all across the country will apply for more leadership roles and demand fair pay.

Letter to the Editor

Feb. 12, by email: I was disappointed to read the editorial, “Students should welcome higher tuition”. I quote, “Students shouldn’t be responsible for drastic tuition increases, but Nevada schools are cheap in comparison to others, and a little extra cost won’t hurt”. Roughly 30 percent of Nevada’s undergraduates receive Pell grants: their expected family contribution [...]

Letter to the editor

Feb. 1, by email: Although I do not have an opinion of personal experience when it comes to the sobering decision as to whether or not to keep a child, have an abortion, or seek an adoption agency, I found it revolting that this newspaper would condone pregnancy as nothing more than an inconvenience and [...]

Letter to the editor

Jan. 14 On behalf of University of Nevada, Reno and Wolf Pack Athletics, we thank you, northern Nevada, for being part of the magical 2010 football season, which culminated in the Pack’s 20-13 victory over Boston College at AT&T Park in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. Going into the 2010 season, we knew the schedule [...]

In response to: ASUN must create non-partisan policy

On Wednesday, October 20, 2010 I spoke at a rally that supported the re-election of U.S.Senator Harry Reid. It seems as though the opinion that I voiced stirred up some controversy in the most recent issue of the Nevada Sagebrush. My opinion is just that, my own opinion. As a student at this public university, [...]

Letter to the editor

I am deeply concerned about news of drastic cuts to the department of foreign languages and literatures, resulting in the cancellation of master’s degree programs and even majors in German, Italian and French.

Letter to the editor: March 20

5 Reasons To Keep College of Education Programs 1.  Nevada has the highest substance abuse rate in the United States. 2. Nevada has one of the highest, if not the highest, suicide rates in the United States. 3.  When there is an economic crisis, there is an increased needed for professional therapists, counselors, and administrators [...]

Letters to the Editor on budget cuts

March 5 via e-mail It is March 2nd and a man is presenting a budget proposal to a group of counseling faculty at the Downing Clinic in the William Raggio Building. After breaking the news to them that the counseling department at the University of Nevada, Reno will be cut, he explains what will likely [...]

Letter to the editor

Oct. 13, by e-mail: Concerning the elimination of rollover swipes. This is really disappointing. Usually I read about the bizarre things the University is doing in order to help cut costs and see some sort of sense in them. I accept them even if I don’t like them. But when I saw that they plan [...]
