Lippincott named to prestigious list; Pack falls in battle with Rebels; Nevada loses two, takes one; Nevada announces 2008 schedule; Avena takes WAC Athlete of the Week

Students shouldn’t wait because tickets are going fast and only 3,500 student tickets will be given. The university will hold an extra 1,500 tickets, but they will cost each student $5.

After weeks of trying, the Nevada rugby team has finally scheduled a game with UNLV.

The Wolf Pack will travel to Las Vegas Sept. 27, the same weekend as Nevada and UNLV’s football game, to renew the interstate rivalry.

University of Nevada, Reno sophomore Brock Stassi spent this summer as a member of the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox, a professional-grade community baseball team, in the Horizon Air Summer Baseball Series. The Horizon Air Summer Series is an eleven-week competition among teams from the western United States comprised of today’s best college baseball players. Here, he earned first-team honors as an outfielder.

Chad Spencer and Jacob Wilner have been added to the golf staff as assistant coaches. The pair will serve both the Wolf Pack men’s and women’s golf teams.

Twelve new athletes have been added to this season’s Nevada’s Track and Field Team. Four seniors will be leading this season’s Nevada Wolf Pack football team onto the field. As announced by head coach Chris Ault, center Dominic Green, running back Luke Lippincott, linebacker Joshua Mauga and defensive tackle Mundrae Clifton will serve as the captains for the 2008 Nevada football team.

Nevada center Dominic Green was named to the Rimington Award Watch List Wednesday, which is given to the nation’s most outstanding center.

Mark McLaughlin, the Wolf Pack’s most anticipated recruit this off-season, decided Friday to enroll in prep school for the 2008-09 school year instead of coming to Nevada.

The Wolf Pack won three of four games at Louisiana Tech this weekend.

The Wolf Pack will host the 2008 WAC tournament Nov. 6-9 at Mackay Stadium.

Nevada strong safety Uche Anyanwu was told to leave Lombardi Recreation Center Thursday after a he pushed two referees at an intramural dodge ball game.

Former Nevada pitcher Darrell Rasner won his first start of the season for the New York Yankees on Sunday.

The Nevada baseball and softball teams swept the WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the week this week.

Nevada is ranked fifth in the three-day WAC championship at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose, Calif.
