I’ve figured it out.
It’s not a slump. It’s not bad breaks. It’s not the coaching. It’s not a slow start. The reality is, the Nevada softball team simply isn’t good this season.
What else could explain a 3-11 Western Athletic Conference record?

It can derail a season, disrupt a team’s chemistry and quickly snowball into larger negative effects. It’s also a word the Wolf Pack softball team refuses to overtake it. After earning back-to-back berths to the NCAA Regionals, the team is fighting to qualify for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

When Nevada’s softball team entered the 2010 season, expectations were sky-high. Coming off a stellar 2009 season in which the team finished 40-19 overall and 15-5 in Western Athletic Conference play, Nevada was expected to compete for another conference title.

Nevada pitcher Katie Holverson was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year earlier today . Holverson was also one of six Wolf Pack members to be named to the All-WAC squad.

Tuesday, in its first home games of the year, the Nevada softball team swept a doubleheader against Sacramento State. The Wolf Pack won 10-2 in five innings in game one and capped off the sweep with a 4-1 win in game two. The pair of wins extended Nevada's home winning streak to 13 games. The Wolf Pack improved its record to 9-7, while Sacramento State fell to 2-6.
