Nevada women’s volleyball (5-16, 3-8) lost to the University of Wyoming Cowgirls (11-11, 4-7) in their first matchup of the season resulting in another blowout.

Both teams entered tonight’s matchup having lost four straight games, with Nevada looking to bounce back after two straight set losses to UC Davis.

The first set opened up with both teams staying neck-and-neck. Wyoming broke the stalemate with a 4-0 run off of a couple errors from Nevada.

The Wolf Pack responded with a 4-0 run of their own to equalize the game. After some back and forth, a service ace from sophomore outside hitter Kamryn Tifft put the game at 19-19. Another stretch of errors from Nevada helped Wyoming close the first set 25-21.

The second set started with an early lead from the Cowgirls, with kills contributed from the team as a whole, putting the score at 9-4.

After a string of errors from Wyoming and kills from freshman outside hitter Paige Thies and junior opposite hitter Jess Walkenhorst, Nevada made it a 1-point game.

The Cowgirls continued to keep up the pressure, with the Wolf Pack constantly trailing. Wyoming was able to dominantly close the second set 25-19, as senior outside hitter Paige Lauterwasser paved the way with three kills at the end of the second set.

The Wolf Pack opened up the third set with a sense of desperation jumping out to a 8-0 lead, led by two kills from Walkenhorst and errors from Wyoming.

The Cowgirls proceeded to go on a 11-2 run to take the lead back from Nevada, spurred by multiple errors from the Wolf Pack and three kills from sophomore middle blocker Anna Williams.

Wyoming with the early comeback would continue that momentum and go on a 12-2 run to all but seal the match. The Cowgirls would end the third set with a 25-15 win.

Overall, the flashes were there from the Wolf Pack but errors ended up being the kiss of death, with 11 of their 28 errors coming in the final set.

In the Wolf Pack’s third straight blowout, they’ve yet to win a set in three straight matches.

The Wolf Pack now looks for redemption with another match against the University of Wyoming at the Virginia Street Gym on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
