On Oct. 2, the Bull Fire started near the Sierra and Washoe County line. The fire has grown to an estimated 1,100 acres within an hour and is moving west and northeast according to Watch Duty. This fire is growing west of Somersett within the Verdi area. As of 4:24 p.m., the fire has grown to 2,500 acres.
There are spot fires two miles away from the main fire potentially causing rapid spread.
Evacuation orders are now in effect. Residents in the Verdi area were placed in a “Go Now” zone.
“Get Set” zones west of Somersett Ridge are also in effect. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) said residents near warning areas should be prepared to leave quickly.
TMFPD are also advising residents to avoid the area for firefighters and other officials to have full access to contain the fire.
TMFPD are sending additional firefighting resources such as air attack, helicopters, four large air tankers and two type three air tankers.
Evacuation zone conditions are expected to change rapidly throughout Washoe and Sierra County.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
