A fire broke out on the University of Nevada, Reno campus at the Harry Reid Engineering building late this morning. Students and faculty received a text at 11:40 a.m. warning the campus community to avoid the area due to the incident and heavy fire and police presence near the William N. Pennington Engineering Building and Evans Avenue.
A flume reportedly caught fire on the third floor of the HRE lab according to Eric James, UNR police chief.
People in the area reported billows of black smoke coming from the building.
“No injuries were reported, and the fire alarm system worked as designed,” said James.
An “all clear” text was sent out at 11:49 a.m. and police and fire remain on scene for clean up operations.
