Judicial hearing results
The Judicial Council of Associated Students of the University of Nevada, Reno’s held a hearing on Sept. 11 to discuss the charge filed by Erin Shaffer, speaker pro tempore and senator of the College of Liberal Arts, against the ASUN Internship Program after failed legislation to rebrand the ASUN internship.
Shaffer v. ASUN Internship was held on the account of an email using the “partnership” term instead of calling it an internship.
During the senate meeting on Sept. 13, Brayden Taeubel, the chief justice gave his report on the judicial council, but no results for the judicial hearing decision were determined yet.
“We’re still … deliberating, so I can’t share any details, so I won’t be answering any questions about that,” Taeubel said. “But anything else, procedure-wise I can answer.”
Senate Bill 91, An Act to Approve the Budget for Fiscal Year 2024 was passed
Prior to the Sept. 13 senate meeting, ASUN had not approved the budget; S.B. 91 was submitted by Diana Landazuri, senator for the College of Business on behalf of Boris Carpio Guerra, the president of ASUN, who proposed a formal request to the Committee for Budget and Finance submitted via email at their meeting on Sept. 1.
“My formal request is to move $20,000 from the ASUN reserves onto Future Programs to help jumpstart the Passion Fund under the Guerra Alquiza administration,” Guerra wrote in his email to Landazuri, the chair of the committee.
The Passion Fund Initiative is an initiative to help ease the financial burden on students who may not be able to afford membership dues for the registered student organizations they are wanting to join. Students will be considered based on their application answers, financial needs and the fund’s budget limitations. There is also a list of requirements an applicant must meet in order to qualify.
