Picture this: you have an hour break between now and your next class. You ate Crazy D’s chicken last night, bad mistake… your stomach is growling and YOU HAVE TO GO. There’s just one issue: you don’t know the best spot to go. Fear not, for I have personally inspected enough campus bathrooms to finally give you the sauce.

When starting this project, I already had a few restrooms in mind for my top five, such as Frandsden Humanities, for example. Yet, through my extensive field work I found some new, niche favorites and have concocted my top-five bathrooms on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, as well as my least favorite one so far: a good-enough guide to have the most peaceful dookie of your college career. My criteria is as follows: the flow and amount of traffic to the restroom in question, the cleanliness of the area, the bathroom’s charm and the accommodations of the space. Remember that this is my opinion, and if you think another bathroom is better than the ones listed here, I don’t really care.

#5: Fleischmann Agriculture, Floor Two

This restroom is pretty chill, to say the least. It has some cute, small square tiles lining the floors and walls, and the stalls have a bright orange paint, giving the building itself some much-needed good vibes. There are also two paper towel dispensers, amazing high-pressure sinks, and there is very low traffic nearby. It can be a little hot inside, as the ventilation seems to be quite ancient in this building, but truly it’s a really cute restroom — cute enough to land an 8.5/10 on my ratings scale, a B+ restroom.

#4: Thompson Basement

This restroom was a bit of a side quest for me to get to. I saw the Stairs to Restroom sign and was instantly curious as to what this basement held for me. Upon entering the restroom, I immediately noticed the slight aroma of chlorine and how clean the surfaces were. Yet, I also noticed the plain and prison-like vibe this restroom was giving, costing it one point on my scale. Testing the sinks, they had almost the perfect pressure, and adding this to the bathroom’s obvious underground privacy, I would say this bathroom has earned itself a 9/10, A tier.

#3: Frandsen Humanities, Floor One

This bathroom was my OG favorite for a plethora of reasons: it’s usually empty (at least when I go), it has high-pressure sinks, a giant mirror, a huge window in the big stall and it has the same charm as the rest of the building. The window is really what seals the deal for me. It is truly an ethereal experience taking a dump in golden-hour lighting. This bathroom is real vintage, so beautiful that I don’t even mind that it’s not a “private” bathroom, landing it a 9.5/10, A tier.

#2: Joe Crowley Student Union, Floor Four

Upon entering this restroom, my mind was blown not just by how massive it is, but also by how empty it was. This bathroom boasts seven stalls, as well as seven sinks to match, and a neat four-urinal setup. The floors are Minecraft-esque grey tiles that spread to the lower trim of the walls, with the walls themselves having a cute tri-color design. Some other amenities include a giant shelf at the entrance, automatic-flushing toilets and an automatic door. My only quarrel with this restroom is that it is hot in there. I’m sure that will be a good thing in the coming months, but for now, it is knocking it down the tiniest bit. The fourth floor of the Joe has earned a solid 9.9/10, or an A+ on my tier list.

#1: Mackay Mining Building

This bathroom changed my life. I only visited it after beginning this project, and I was pleasantly surprised. First off, it is a private restroom and has extremely low foot traffic, making it the perfect spot to take a peaceful dookie or just chud out for no reason. You open the beautiful, wooden door with gold accents and enter a spacious room, with tile from the floor to the top of the walls. The lighting is a calm white color, with lights above the toilet and mirror, making it a good spot to even film some TikToks if you are so inclined. The toilet itself is great, as it is not a “school toilet” and is instead a gorgeous porcelain throne, something I have not seen since I was back home. Some more pros of this bathroom include good A/C, a hand dryer as well as paper towels, and an outlet next to the mirror. If you are looking for the best bathroom on campus, this is it. 11/10, S tier.

(Dishonorable Mention: Worst Bathroom) Church Fine Arts Floor 1

I take Music Appreciation, so unfortunately I have to use this bathroom quite a bit. It’s just not the greatest. It’s super small and cramped in there, especially with the amount of foot traffic coming in and out constantly. I am at least 96.7% sure that there has been at least one person in this bathroom every time I go, and most of the time, it stinks. There is one big stall, and one very little stall (nearly unusable if you have to sit down and take a dump). Although it’s not all awful, as there is a neat automatic door, the bathroom has an almost cute design, and all of the essential bathroom functions do exist. It’s just a sort of ghetto restroom in my opinion. 4/10, or F tier.

I hope this guide helps you out in some way, shape or form — and that you are now prepared to take the best #2 of your life.
