The Nevada Wolf Pack women’s soccer team (4-12-1, 1-6-1) took down the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP) Miners (8-6-3, 2-6-0) in a close evening contest at Mackay Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Nevada entered the game winless in both conference play and at home this season. Recently, UTEP had faced similar struggles to the Pack; the Miners hadn’t scored in three consecutive games and had lost four in a row.
Less than six minutes into the game, Nevada’s redshirt senior midfielder Jasmine Narvaro assisted the first goal to junior forward Carmen Coronado.
The Miners quickly responded, as junior defender Ashlee Mora nearly scored; however, after the referee checked the play, it was confirmed there was a foul in the build-up to the goal. In the 32nd minute, Miners freshman forward Haylee Lancaster tied the game, slotting it into the bottom corner.

Despite goals scored by both teams, a relatively uneventful first half ended 1-1.
Both teams received fouls in a high-energy start to the second half, before Nevada retook their advantage.
In the 57th minute, freshman midfielder Daniela Mayorga-Torres scored Nevada’s second goal, with a stunning effort from outside the box. The build-up to the goal was just as important, with assists going to senior forward Charlotte Bonney and Jacobo-Duran.
Nevada then was able to extend their advantage, as senior forward Olivia Loomis scored a scrappy goal for Nevada in the 74th minute, making the score 3-1.
With 7 minutes left of the game, Wolf Pack’s freshman midfielder Kaimi Wills received the game’s first booking after tension on the field.

After a penalty was given against Nevada sophomore midfielder Saige McCusker, UTEP senior defender Ashlyn Neireiter scored the second goal for the Miners, cutting Nevada’s lead to 3-2.
In the 85th minute, junior defender Olivia Sisto also received a yellow card for Nevada due to time wasting.
Nevada was able to close the game out, winning for the first time at home 3-2.
Nevada travels to take on the San Jose State University Spartans on Sunday, Nov. 1 for their next matchup.
