Poor year shouldn’t erase strong careers

Moments after helping the Nevada women’s basketball team win only its third conference game of the season and finally mustering its first winning streak of the year Saturday against Louisiana Tech, senior Kayla Williams tightly embraced her head coach, Jane Albright, in the middle of the court. Glaring smiles occupied both of their faces, and [...]

Women’s basketball takes tough OT loss

It appears nothing can go right for the Nevada women’s basketball team these days. Even when the team has support during a week dedicated to raising awareness for the destruction of breast cancer, it still loses in heartbreaking fashion. The Wolf Pack rocked its pink uniforms in two games last week against Utah State and [...]

Nevada drops fifth straight to top-ranked Fresno

Returning to the Lawlor Events Center did little to alleviate the ailing women’s basketball team, which lost Saturday to the Fresno State Bulldogs 85-67 for the second time this season in the first of a three-game home stretch for the Wolf Pack. The loss drops Nevada (5-17, 1-7 WAC), sending them even deeper into the [...]

Women’s basketball continues losing streak

Wednesday’s matchup between the Nevada women’s basketball team and Pacific seemed to be the perfect opportunity for the Wolf Pack to bounce back after an ugly 103-65 loss to Penn State in the Nugget Classic five days prior. The Tigers came in with a 2-3 record and its three losses were by an average of [...]

Women’s basketball is still a work in progress despite hype

Conference championship. NCAA Tournament. Those were the goals the women’s basketball team said were on its players’ minds heading into the season. However, after its performance at the John Ascuaga Nugget Classic ( 38-point loss to Penn State after a narrow win over Butler), the Wolf Pack is definitely a work in progress. I realize [...]

Coach’s Corner: Jane Albright

*Editor’s note: Wolf Pack women’s basketball head coach Jane Albright is in her fourth season with the Wolf Pack. The Wolf Pack was picked to finish fourth in the coaches preseason poll.

Starting a new era

A chance to go down in history. That is what’s at stake for the Wolf Pack women’s basketball team in 2011. It’s also the final opportunity for Nevada to win a Western Athletic Conference championship, something players on this year’s squad have failed to do at this point.

Senior looking to leave mark on program

Senior forward Kayla Williams has never been “the one.” Since she arrived at Nevada, Williams has always had former Wolf Pack player Shavon Moore by her side, dominating in the paint. Now, in a season where the women’s basketball team faces challenges, it’s Williams’ time to shine. “I’ve had the advantage of getting to play [...]

Former Nevada women’s basketball guard Tahnee Robinson became the school’s first player drafted into the WNBA last week, as well as the third former Wolf Pack athlete to go pro in the NBA or WNBA in the past two years (Luke Babbitt and Armon Johnson are the other two). But out of the three recent Nevada ballers to go pro, only one has a future ahead of them — Robinson.

When former Nevada guard Tahnee Robinson first came to Nevada in 2009, she brought a lot of hype with her. At Sheridan College, Robinson led the nation in scoring, averaging 28.9 points per game as a sophomore and helped lead the team to the Region IX Championship.

USC ends Wolf Pack’s season

One look at the statistics of Nevada’s 79-58 loss to the University of Southern California in the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament on Sunday and it’d be easy to imagine fans leaving the game early. USC dominated early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and never letting the Wolf Pack back into the game.

Column: Loss the best way to say goodbye

The last time I cried because of a sporting event was in 2001 when the Tennessee Titans lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the American Football Conference playoffs.

After picking up its first postseason win in school history Thursday against St. Mary’s, the Wolf Pack women’s basketball team ran into a squad that dominated every aspect of the game.
