Women’s rights issues deserve more attention, activism


It’s time these issues receive the worldwide attention and action they merit. We cannot wait until another 13-year-old girl dies because she was forced into marriage, or until a Sudanese woman is whipped for wearing jeans or a Pakistani woman is gang-raped as punishment for her brother’s alleged misdeeds (Lubna Hussein and Mukhtar Mai, respectively). We must take action now to ensure that women’s rights — which are every just as much a human rights issue as genocide and mass atrocities — are promptly addressed throughout the globe.
